A 46-year-old New Castle County, Delaware woman has been charged with first-degree murder after the death of a Delaware State University student.
According to NBC Philadelphia, the suspect identified as Cheryl Jennings fired into 19-year-old Malcolm Evans’ sedan on July 9.
In the news report, Evans was on his way to work when Jennings fired the fatal shot at 4 a.m.
The 19-year-old immediately crashed his sedan after the suspect fired a bullet aimed at his upper body.
Evans died shortly after.
New Castle County Police report that the two did not have a prior connection but both lived in the same neighborhood.
“Malcolm Evans was truly an innocent victim. He was a young man who lived with his parents and brother. He went to college, worked a job and dreamed of becoming a doctor,” said county executive Thomas P. Gordon. “His death is a loss to all of us and we continue to share his family’s grief.”
Officers made the arrest on Aug. 24. However, there is no clear motive for the shooting at this time.
Police state in the news clip that the investigation is ongoing.
